In 1949 & 1950 the first two men's national collegiate volleyball championships were held in Los Angeles & Knoxville, Tennessee. They were both won by the University of Southern California. Up to 2003 volleyball history failed to memorialize this fete until USC's volleyball coach of those two teams, Hans W. Vogel, wrote a thoroughly documented paper on the subject. USC & USA Volleyball recognition came on Oct. 10, 2003 at an awards dinner at USC's Heritage Hall.
